I was born in Texas so I love to read this story of an amazing family who has kept their roots alive starting with Scotts (current owner) great grandmother, Bettie in 1867. Just about 100 years later Thurman, Scott’s father started to create Salt Lick.
It is so exciting to take the short ride from Austin, through flower fields, unspoiled land, and right in the middle of the Texas Hill country.
When you drive up, you feel like a horse should be riding you here and you would want to park it by one of the old oak trees nearby!
It is rustic and very casual with live music playing. There is a huge open pit where meat has been smoked since 1967. You know exactly why this destination has had tons of press and TV exposure.
