Chelsea Royal Diner: West Brattleboro, Vermont

$0.00

Quick Overview

On our arrival at camp on Sunday, June 2, it was a warm to hot summer day. Our room was on the second floor of Marlboro North and fortunately we brought a fan to help cool things down. Of course a front moved through and the rest of the week was cool, but for a couple of Southerners cool water and iced drinks were imperative.

Our friends at the camp told us that there were some places to the east about 8-9 miles up VT 9 in West Brattleboro and Brattleboro to purchase drinks and any groceries we might need, so after dinner we headed up the road to check it out.

We found a large gas station that provided a large soft drink with ice, but the pleasant surprise was to find the Chelsea Royal Diner. This small restaurant at the fringes of Brattleboro had a big ice cream cone outside that immediately drew our attention. Nothing like soft serve on a hot day!

Although we sat in the car because it was raining a bit when we got there, they had outside picnic tables that made it possible to sit with Susie outside if so desired. There also was an inside diner eating area that we didn’t take advantage of because we were eating the great food at camp, but the ice cream was an irresistible attraction.

As a result this became an almost daily trek for ice cream. The first day we had the chocolate soft serve which proved to be the best soft serve we have ever eaten. Susie enjoyed her portion immensely too. During the week we also tried their homemade regular ice cream. The maple walnut flavor was amazing with local maple syrup used in its making and the walnuts were crunchy and tasty as well.

We already miss the place and highly recommend a visit if you are in or passing through southeastern Vermont.  Our rating is based on the ice cream only at this time.
