As you can see from Parts one and two of my Journey to Jamaica, there is much to see and do there and I'm not done yet. They kept us hopping on this trip and may I say, I honestly don't think we even scratched the surface.
We were able to spend a leisurely afternoon visiting the Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa, an oceanfront property set on the Rose Hall Estate www.rosehallresort.com
They had a spa and kid's area and are ready to open a new Water Park. From there, we went on to tour the Rose Hall Great House. It is up to you to figure out if the legend is true, but our guide tthought the place was haunted and when you hear the stories of the White Witch, I think you will too. It was sort of creepy, but you had to check it out. Johnny Cash even recorded a song about her called “The Legend of Annie Palmer.”
We got to do a wee bit of shopping as we headed into Montego Bay to an area known as the “Hip Strip.” There's a lot of pressure from some of the shop owners, but I was lucky to find a great spot called Tropical Treasures located at 55 Gloucester Avenue. Sam helped me understand about Blue Mountain coffee and how to recognize the real deal. I got the best prices there with no hassle. Stop in and see Sam.
Fortunately, we were able to enjoy time back at our hotel, the Melia Braco Village and I got to sample a signature drink of Jamaica, the Bob Marley (pictured). It tasted as good as it looked. We also had the opportunity to engage in a street fair. As I mentioned in a previous post, this hotel is set up as a Village, so on Friday night, they bring in vendors, set up food stations around the property as well as tables and chairs and provide entertainment. They brought in an amazing steel drum band group and you were encouraged to dance. It felt like the street parties we had when I was growing up – a really nice touch!
They had other restaurants on the property – the food was great wherever we ate. The Marketplace was the buffet and served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Rasta Pasta had some amazing Italian cuisine with either indoor or outdoor seating. 876 Prime was outstanding. It was a beautiful space with terrific steak and seafood options. Nikkei is an Asian/Peruvian fusion restaurant. You can order off the menu or if you want the entertainment of the Teppanyaki tables, you need to make a reservation. They also have a late night place called Shaker with a DJ which is open from 11:00PM to 3:00AM. Have as many Bob Marleys as you want because you can walk home!
