It is difficult to find a true intergenerational family experience that entertains, educates, and inspires, but on our recent road trip to SanAntonio, Texas, we found one. We went to Enchanted Springs Ranch with aunt, uncle, niece, twin 5-year olds, and a fifth grader and we all loved it!!

When you enter Enchanted Springs Ranch, you are immediately immersed in an old west town. You are walking around in a real movie set. The town has been used for many major movies, commercials, and music videos. It looks and feels like the real thing. You can sit in a cantina with its dirt floor. Drink in the saloon and find yourself in one of the town’s jails. These are not storefronts, but real buildings. The playground is western design and great for Ten years old and under.

Visitors start in the dancehall with Pistol Packin Paula. She is the Entertainment Director for the Ranch. She twirled a pair of 45 caliber pistols every way imaginable. She then dazzled us with a pair of bullwhips. She hit targets with amazing precision. I learned the cracking sound was the whip breaking the 750-mile per hour sound barrier. Paula presents an uplifting message aimed at encouraging young people to follow their dreams. She is the only woman in the U.S. to make her living twirling guns and cracking whips.

Next we took a covered wagon tour around the exotic animal park. We saw buffalo, deer, antelope, longhorn steer, and zebra. The Sheriff of Enchanted Springs drives the tractor around the ranch pointing out all the special attractions.

For $5.00 extra you can get one of your party “arrested”. In our case it was I. The Sheriff made me dance and sing “My Little Teapot” in prison garb. This will go down in family history lore.

The History Channel and The Oprah Winfrey Show have recommended the Enchantment Springs Ranch. They are open for weddings, field trips for local schools, corporate events, and chuck wagon dinner shows.
