Growing up in San Antonio during the 60’s was a wonderful time in my life.  Summers spent at the neighborhood pool, sock hops, Friday night football, and the Beatles.  A favorite date night was one spent at the local amusement park.  Playland Park was home to The Rocket, hailed as the largest roller coaster in the world when the park first opened in 1947, and I screamed my way through many a ride.

While amusement parks have changed since the 60’s, you can now find some of those same great thrills on a ship that takes cruising and fun to all new heights.  Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, Quantum of the Seas, will definitely amaze you with its technology, stateroom designs, and a new twist on traditional dining venues.  The ship debuted in October, 2014, and offers a myriad of activities that will have you quickly forget the old amusement park days.

Want to experience sky diving at sea?  You can do it.  Bumper car rides or roller skating?  No problem. Love the circus?  Then find out what it’s like to swing on a trapeze in circus school.  Want to tackle the 30-foot high rock climbing wall or try out the surf simulator?  Perfect.  Or, if you’re adventurous, you’ll want to try out the North Star observation capsule that takes you to 300 feet above sea level for jaw-dropping views.

Staterooms on the Quantum of the Seas are the largest and most luxurious in the Royal Caribbean fleet.  You’ll quickly notice the efficient lighting, ample storage space and designs that make your stay ever-so-comfortable.  If you’re traveling with family or friends, there’s even a stateroom category that allow several staterooms to be connected, so that you can spend time together but have separate bedrooms and baths.

For experienced cruisers, perhaps the biggest change you’ll find on this ship is the elimination of the large-scale main dining room concept.  Replacing it are a variety of smaller dining venues that offer new culinary masterpieces each night.  Before or after dinner you might want to stop by the Bionic Bar which uses robotic bartenders to serve up your favorite cocktails.    Yes, robots!  Here’s a tip.  You’ll definitely want to make reservations in advance for dining, activities and entertainment.  This high-tech ship offers an interactive scheduling service so guests easily can make and keep track of their reservations.

Families, multi-generational travelers and those simply looking for a great time will love this ship.  Why not take a Quantum leap and check it out?

Safe travels!
