If you drive through the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains near Asheville North Carolina you may begin to see signs for the Biltmore Estates.  This is one of the largest privately owned homes in the United States, as is famous for both its residence and the location.  Many movies, TV shows and commercials have been filmed inside the home and around the entire estate.

We live in a hectic world where the days seem to fly by at warp speed and we tend to miss some of the beauty that surrounds us, but I found a spot where time stands still and nature stands out. Join me as I take you to Mohawk Valley, just outside Eugene, Oregon to the Tipi Village Retreat.

How My Travels Influenced My Decision to Become a Homestay Host.

For those of you who love Espana, together we have ventured out to Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Seville, and the Costa del Sol. I would like to entice you to venture down to the Andalusian area of Spain – you will fall in love with this area as it has breathtaking beaches, perfect year around temperatures and many archaeological and historical sites for those history aficionados!  The best kept secret is that one can own their own hideaway – i.e. retirement home at a fraction of the cost in the U.S.

REMEMBER WHEN?   LUXURY WAS A GIVEN, AND THE CUNARD SLOGAN WAS “GETTING THERE IS HALF THE FUN”? That was in the Golden Age of transatlantic crossings. When people really going to or from someplace had to resort to sea travel to go long distances.  With the advent of jet planes, carrying more passengers at greater speeds, ocean travel has become almost extinct. But, the QUEEN MARY 2 keeps it alive in all its luxury and splendor on its run from New York (“Brooklyn!”) to Southampton (and some other European destinations).  And I’m telling you, if you have the time, and the money, then treat yourselves to 7 days of luxury, elegance, grand living, and of being suspended in time and place. Getting there really was more than half the fun!!!

What happens when the worst happens and you get sick or injured on vacation? If your condition is so severe that you can’t fly back on a commercial airline then you will need to book an air ambulance to get home. I have strong memories from my childhood vacations to Keystone Heights in north central Florida to visit my dad’s mom and family. Once each trip we would head off to Saint Augustine in my great- uncle’s Cadillac. I remember the huge old fort, the smell of the ocean, and the trees of unknown origin. Last winter, we stopped for an afternoon on our way to Seabrook Island, South Carolina. My return trip brought back these great memories and much more.
