I have ordered fish and chips through the years all across the country. It is a favorite for me and, I know for a lot of you! It is always a good idea to ask the particular restaurant what fish they are using. The best is sole, flounder, grouper or cod. You do not want the batter too thick, its perfect when there is a flakiness to the batter and not too greasy. The chips are the best when they are fresh cut fries. Many times you also will get a small dish of coleslaw. Last and not least is the tartar sauce, I have had yummy tartar sauce and not so yummy tartar sauce. It should be good so you can dip!

Traveling to Irish Acres Gallery of Antiques from any direction takes you through the heart of the Kentucky horse country. The beautiful drive takes you past horse barn after horse barn that would be the envy of any human being. The stonewalls that line the narrow winding road remind you of a time gone by. We were meeting our extended family for lunch at “The Glitz” located in the gallery. We were off the beaten path in the small town of Nonesuch, Kentucky, 10 miles outside of Versailles. 

A couple years ago my fiancée, my daughter, and his son and father all went to Disney World to celebrate our union together before our wedding.  I already had joined the Disney Vacation Club program, and went ahead to schedule a 2 bedroom villa.  Doug’s father could not walk long distances due to a heart issue, and being 80 years old, so we rented a scooter.  We also made sure that the villa was on the first floor.  My fiancée needed to use a CPAK for oxygen at night, so a comfortable place to sleep was key.  Finally, the kitchen was Wonderful, as we had special dietary needs.

If you guessed the Historic Park Inn in Mason City, Iowa, you are correct! It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was opened to the public in 1910. The entire history of this hotel can be found on their website which is listed at the end of this article. It has recently undergone a $20 million renovation and is definitely worth making the trip to Iowa.

There is a well-known saying, “Bagan is (the) spirit of (the) history of Myanmar” and to fully understand the importance and complexity of the Buddhist influence over Myanmar then you really should treat yourself to a hot air balloon flight over the ancient city of Bagan. Although not yet awarded a UNESCIO World Heritage listing, this area is home to the highest density of Buddhist architecture anywhere in the world and stretches across 42 square kilometers of the Irrawaddy plain. I had already spent two leisurely days exploring the area by electric moped, where I  was amazed by the craftsmanship of the builders dating back to the 11th and 13th centuries, however, I needed to experience a “birds eye view,” to really appreciate the historic and cultural wealth of this site.

Traveling whets the taste buds, and when you’re in the most glorious, glamour spots on earth, dining is pure pleasure. A feast for the eyes, the nose, the mouth and the stomach.  Something to be desired, something to be appreciated, so let’s visit a few more wonderful places in great towns.

Our trip to see the Angel Oak Tree near Charleston, South Carolina was far more powerful than I had expected. The only other time I’ve felt so overwhelmed, humbled and stunned at the sheer majesty of Mother Nature was standing in the Redwood Forest.
