We are always on the hunt for new and interesting types of accommodations to share with you. Well, maybe new is not the correct term for this unusual property, but unique would certainly cover it. I’ll bet not many of you have stayed in a Broch, or even know what it is. That’s why we’re here - to keep you in the know!

Broch is a prehistoric abode made of stone and unique to Scotland. Many of them are thousands of years old. Heck, it sounds like Fred Flintstone slept here. Today’s Brochs are inspired by their prehistoric ancestors with modern twists.

Which leads me to the Blue Reef Cottages, where you can take your significant other for a romantic getaway like no other. Each cottage has one bedroom with a king bed, fully equipped kitchen (you must bring your own groceries), bathroom with its own Sauna and Jacuzzi tub, an office complete with internet connected computer – wifi and skype – a rowing machine, living room with observation area, Sky TV, DVD player, fuel burning stove and heated flooring.

Also provided in the cottage are mountain bikes, golf clubs, picnic backpacks and beach towels. I would also recommend that you bring along a pair of binoculars to catch glimpses of all the wildlife.

Speaking of wildlife – there is plenty for you to see – Scottish common seals, dolphins, whales, otters, eagles, black faced sheep and red deer, to name a few.

Outside your window, you will witness beautiful beaches, which are about a 10 minute walk away, magnificent sunsets, and depending on the time of year, lovely flowers.

While you are there, you must explore your surroundings. Take a boat trip to St. Kilda, which is about 40 miles away, to visit Britain’s most remote inhabited island and Scotland’s first World Heritage Site. Try your luck at fishing for trout and salmon. You can also sign up for archery, kayaking and kite surfing. Want a more laid back activity? Visit the Harris Tweed shop and warehouse, a family tradition since 1910. I’m sure you will bring back a souvenir.

The top industries in this area are fishing, aquaculture and Harris Tweed and the cottages are all eco-friendly. There are restaurants about ten minutes away and your hosts can provide, for an additional charge, airport/ferry pick up and local sightseeing excursions.

So, brush up on your Gaelic and book a trip to Scotland. The Blue Reef Cottages are worth the trip!
