Jeep Tours are a must-do for you and the grandkids. Pink Jeep Tours and other companies deliver great off-road adventure as you fly over boulders and explore the sandstone petroglyphs. They’re not only fun, but educational as tour guides explain the different red rock formations, talk about the history of Sedona and point out the desert vegetation and animals. I recommend Pink Jeep’s two-hour Broken Arrow Tour, which features 2 miles of scenic beauty with plenty of off-road acrobatics. Great for getting teens to unplug from their cell phones. (Ask about the AAA discount.)  Hop on and off the Sedona Trolley Tour to get the lay of the land between Oak Creek and West Sedona. Spend a “Day in the West” for horseback riding. Slide Rock State Park provides easy hiking trails along the creek and chance to explore nature. Kids aged 6 – 12 can participate in the Junior Ranger program. Heading to the Grand Canyon? Check out tours via air or shuttle that leave from Sedona.

Mention must be made for Out of Africa Wildlife Park – an exciting experience featuring a zoo, African Safari Bush Tour, Tiger Splash show and new Predator Zip-Line. Buy your tickets online and save. Board the Verde Canyon Railroad, about 20 min from Sedona, for a ride through canyons, old mining town and lots of wildlife.

Choice of Accommodations

All-inclusive resorts, luxury hotels, condo vacation homes and bed and breakfast inns offers a range of places to stay. When it comes to dining, think local and home grown. Sedona practically invented the “farm to table” concept and chefs take advantage of the local fruit and produce as well as fresh fish from Oak Creek. Red Rock Café, Wildflower Bread Company and Cucina Rustica are great for families.

Go with the Flow

What exactly is Vortex Energy? According to Pete A. Sanders Jr., author of Scientific Vortex Information, “Vortex sites are enhanced energy locations that facilitate prayer, meditation, mind/body healing, and soul exploration.” The reason for the spirituality is the actual geography of Sedona, which holds every major vortex. People come to explore the energy to create transformation through meditation, tours and classes. Many come away with a new sense of self that guides their future.

I took one of Sander’s Scientific Vortex Tours starting at the Los Abrigados Resort and climbed to the top of the Airport Mesa. The views were exquisite, and the quiet meditation appropriately harnessed the energy. (sanders@sedona.net, freesoul.net)

No matter what you do in Sedona, you’ll create lasting memories. I still have visions of the red rocks in my head and can’t wait to go back!
