Earl of Sandwich Motel Cape Cod, Massachusetts

$0.00

Quick Overview

Ah yes, it says Motel, not Hotel – remember those? This is one of the reasons I love visiting Cape Cod. I feel like that little girl in the back of the car with my pillow while Mom and Dad drove someplace wonderful for vacation. That's the feel throughout the Cape – be prepared to be transported back to the 60's – in a good way!

One of the first towns you see after you cross the Bourne Bridge is Sandwich, the oldest town on Cape Cod. This is the beginning of the stretch on Highway 6A that can take you from Sandwich to Provincetown, covering the Cape from end to end.

You can fly into Boston or Providence and rent a car. Our journey begins and Sandwich is a great place to call home.

The Earl of Sandwich Motel makes you feel like you're a guest in someone's home. It's not free, but it is extremely reasonable – a super value for this area. The grounds are wonderful with 3 acres of gardens, swings and lovely places to stroll. It is pet friendly and clean, but only has 24 rooms, so call before you go.

There is a swimming pool and duck pond, free parking, free Wi-Fi and a free continental breakfast.

This area boasts many interesting places. Nearby is the Heritage Museum and Gardens featuring a car museum, carousel, windmill and 70 acres of gardens. The Sandwich Glass Museum, located on Main Street in Sandwich houses rooms of historic glass  and preserves the history of glass making in the area. You will see glass blowing demonstrations and can participate in a scavenger hunt. Take a drive to Sandy Neck beach – the water is always cold, but it is scenic, clean and a great place to stroll and do some bird watching.

Drive a few minutes and you will find more beaches, take cranberry bog tours and go whale watching. Only about a half hour away is Falmouth, where you can board the ferry to either Martha's Vineyard or Cape Cod. If you just want to do a day trip, you can go early, park your car and be back to the motel in the evening. They also have car ferries if you want to stay over and take your car – be sure and check the schedules as they vary with the seasons.

The Earl of Sandwich Motel is family owned, clean, a great value and worth a visit. Just a note, the beds are high, so keep that in mind if you have mobility issues.
