Semsa Denizsel, the chef, owner took one of the very first farm-to-table approaches in Istanbul. She knew in her late teens she wanted to be a chef. Her background started when she studied at London School of Printing. She worked with magazines as a food stylist Semsa ran another restaurant before her dream came to life when she opened Kantin in Jan. 2000. Semsa has had so much fun with her success. She has her own radio show and does a lot of consulting on the side.
This restaurant is very unassuming, with a mixture of a cafe bistro and take out all in one. There is a store right under the bistro. The moment you walk up, you will smell such lovely flavors in the air with a Turkish, Mediterranean twist. You can purchase Semsa's treasures which include salads, jams, sauces, pastries and much more! Heritage and integrity is so important to Semsa. Her goal was to taste home cooking in a restaurant.
There are beautiful Linden trees on the outside terrace you can enjoy and the location is fabulous. All of us boomer women love to shop, so you are steps away from a lot of choices for just that!
There is a black board that the menu is written on each day. The dishes change every day and there will always be 10 to 14 dishes to choose from. Your waiter will translate into English so you can make the perfect choice.
The ingredients are always very fresh. Semsa makes a winner with her sourdough breads. They start with an heirloom wheat which is 8000 years old.
