Few places in the world are as romantic and private as Bellagio, a resort nestled in the hills of Lake Como.  Often referred to as “Pearl of the Lake,” Bellagio has world class hotels and restaurants that offer the perfect environment to relax and enjoy the stunning panoramic views – especially the Italian Alps.

Getting there is an easy train ride (about an hour) from Milan to Lago di Como, then a short ferry to Bellagio.  As you approach the lakeside, you will notice how relaxed you begin to feel as Bellagio captures your spirit with its magnificent views and charm.

The village is lined with 19th-century villas and a number of salitas (stairways) which go up the hillside to the furthest areas of town.  A walking tour is suggested which takes only about an hour.  You will gain greater insight into the local people and how they live.  If you choose to do your own walking tour, I would suggest you walk to the tip of the promontory called “Punta Spartivento” which translates into “where the wind divides”.  This is the best view overlooking Lake Como and the Alps – truly magnificent!  After your tour, why not savor a glass of wine or aperitivo in one of the lakeside restaurants!

The Villa Serbelloni is Bellagio’s most popular attraction and a must see!  You need to get tickets as this can only be visited by a guided tour.    It was a private villa in 1852 and home to Napoleon, royalty and currently the property of the Rockefeller Foundation.  Throughout your walk you will visit various Churches as well as a Navigation Museum that displays many artifacts dating back to early 19th Century.

Bellagio truly is a historically rich destination – you may even see George Clooney who has a home here, sipping a cappuccino in one of the outdoor restaurants.

Truly a must see on your Italian tour – and a place which you will be able to regroup and regain your strength as you continue on your many ventures throughout Italy and Europe.

Happy Travels!
